Townsend Ranger District

The Townsend Ranger Station is one of 3 on the Helena National Forest. The Townsend Ranger District manages approximately 273,000 acres, including the Big Belt Mountains and Elkhorn Mountains. Maps, firewood permits, Christmas tree permits, and general forest information are available at the ranger station.

The Ranger Station is located on State Highway 287, at 415 South Front, just east of Townsend (32 miles south of Helena).
