Diamond Hitch Outfitters
Diamond Hitch Outfitters have guided modern day adventurers to the area's best places since 1972. We are guides, teachers, wranglers, cooks and friends sharing this amazing country with our guests. Below are some of the activities we'd love to share with you.
Southwest Montana is rich in history, unspoiled wilderness, spectacular views, blue ribbon fishing and a variety of wildlife. From high rocky summits through expansive meadows and forests down to world famous trout fishing rivers, the area begs to explored, and how better to experience it than from the back of a horse or in a river boat.
HOURLY HORSEBACK RIDES: Enjoy the fun of a horseback ride and the inspiring views of the Beaverhead Valley and surrounding mountain ranges. From above the valley you'll view a large and important section of the Lewis and Clark expedition two centuries ago. Riders start from our stables 3 miles west of Dillon on Ten Mile Road (past the KOA Campgrounds). We welcome kids and adults, beginner to experienced.
COOKOUT RIDES: From our upper Crystal Park cabin we offer a scenic horseback ride and campfire cookout. The evenings are especially nice for riding and seeing wildlife. The dinner is a barbecue of choice meat, salads, dutch oven potatoes, dessert--and of course campfire marshmallows.
HIGH COUNTRY HORSEBACK DAY TRIPS: For the highlight of your stay, explore our high country from the back of a good horse. High lake trips offer spectacular scenery, superb fishing and a lakeside lunch. Rides vary from 1.5 hours to 3 hours one-way.
More into riding than fishing, our MOUNTAIN and MEADOW RIDES explore the wildlife rich Pioneer Mountains through beautiful forests and lush wildflower meadows. Or ride back in history with a horseback tour through some of Montana's earliest gold rush diggings, cabins and ghost towns.
PACK TRIPS: Mulit-day trips are the best way to get back to nature. They combine riding, fishing, wildlife, breathtaking scenery and camping. The Sand Lake pack trip is a scenic three to four hour ride up to our lakeside base camp. From the Sand Lake camp we offer day rides to different lakes and up to where the mountain goats play. At the lake you can spend the day fishing, floating swimming, hiking, riding or relaxing in the beauty and serenity of this special area. Adventure trips tour spectacular areas of the East and West Pioneer Mountains. These moving trips are tailored for individual preferences with a mix of riding scenery, fishing, wildflowers and wildlife viewing.
BEAVERHEAD RIVER TRIPS: Out of southwestern Montana's mountains flows one of the country's premier trout river. The Beaverhead is famous for their trophy trout. GUIDED float-fishing trips will get you into this legendary fishing. We can furnish everything you need for an exciting day on the river. SCENIC floats with our larger rafts, your family or group can experience the scenery, fun and relaxation of being on the river. Full-day or half-day floats are available. (Fishing is available but limited on scenic floats).
