In 1989, the first running of the Elkhorn Mountain Endurance Run took place on the Elkhorn Mountain trails just south of Montana City, Montana. The original race included a 100K (62.2 mile) trail race through the Elkhorn Mountains. The HURL Elkhorn Endurance Runs now include 50 mile and 50 kilometer distances. The race courses include mostly trails with some dirt Forest Service Roads, challenging terrain and some incredible scenery.

The race is a fundraiser for the Capital City Amateur Radio Club and the Elkhorn Search and Rescue.

Driving Directions

The HURL Elkhorn Endurance Runs begin at Crystal Creek Campground (intersection of Forest Service Roads 4017 and 294) in the Elkhorn Mountains. Crystal Creek Campground is approximately 6.5 miles up McClellan Creek Road from Montana City.
